If you look at the quality of pre-ACPI BIOS, they are of very bad quality. ACPI is a _very complicated_ standard, and then they make the implementation wrong a lot of times :( I will be putting here a method to get any machine that don't work with ACPI in a black list that don't use ACPI by default. Notice that ACPI will be good if everybody use it, I am able to change the frecuency of my laptop, consult how many battery it still has, switch the fan on/off, calling a script when I press the power button, close the laptop, press the sleep button .....
