I've been using mozilla with an imap server (cyrus) forever (well, at least since mozilla-mail became useful).are you using mozilla-mail with imap?
The only problem I had is when the local headers cache become corrupted (and that doesn't occur very often, in fact I saw it with mozilla/windows more than with mozilla/linux), easily solved by deleting it.
I don't use mandrake's packages for mozilla though, but I think they should be fine too.
