Cinelerra is GPL, but it includes the code to the LAME mp3 encoder which is
also GPL (I think) but falls under patent laws.
If someone wants to make a patch to remove the LAME code from cinelerra sources
AND add code to run the LAME binary located elsewhere on the system when
encoding is needed, this would make cinelerra contribs compatible.

Note that I have packaged Linux Video Studio into contribs, although it is
nowhere NEAR as capable as brodcast was. Also avidemux does some basic editing
stuff, and is available on PLF as well.

On a side not, broadcast is easier to use than cinelerra, and totally GPL, so
I think it should be kept in contribs, and not 'obseleted' by cinelerra which
is a whole different beast.
