Not true at all.
Most scientists I know (I know a lot of em), use Windows.  A few use
Sun/SGI.  The rest get a redhat cd, do a "default" install, and spend
weeks trying to compile everything else they need from source.
There is no good reason for this, and there is not one good reason
Mandrake shouldn't be the best distro for a scientist's desktop, or as a
powerful workstation.
Plus I like making RPMs.  :-)
