This happens on two different systems I installed mandrake 9.0 on.
Besides, gpm also doesn't seem to work properly at times with vi.
Everything was perfect on mandrake 8.2, with gpm 1.19.
Problem with mc can be solved by doing a chmod a+s mc .... NOT a very good idea.
