Just a thought, but would it be possible to use ISOLINUX:
http://syslinux.zytor.com/iso.php

You could copy the isolinux folder from the cooker mirror, replace the kernel 
with the HD one, and burn it to a CD.

I've never tried this, but it might work, and you wouldn't have to worry about 
the image size.
