It comes from code that checks for partition type on device. Usually it means you have 
no media inserted in removable drive (unless you really happen to have damaged disk).

Do you per chance have SCSI removable disk (Jaz, Zip or like)? SCSI driver pretends it 
has disk when it really has none which results in flood of messages when other drivers 
try to read from it. I even intended to "fix" it a while back (a _long_ while back :) 
but never was bothered enough to do it.

I'll get a look when time permits. OTOH it has been this way at lease since 8.2 so I 
wonder what happened suddenly that people no complaint. (no, I do not run full cooker, 
just new kernel compiled myself)
