First off, this problem presists in OpenOffice.org-1.0.2-0.1mdk. I found a
semi-workaround for it by installing the OpenOffice.org-l10n-en package.
After removing the files and starting with ooffice --lang fi, there are still
error messages (posted below) but OpenOffice starts and seems to work OK (didn't
check every feature). The error messages:

The root of the problem seems to be the settings in /etc/sysconfig/i18n however.
They are set to en_US, probably because that's what I selected in the installer
(I prefer my programs in English; the motivation behind trying to use the
i10n-fi package for OpenOffice.org was to have localized templates etc).
I dropped severity to minor as this seems to be more of a "The error message
should be xxx instead of yyy" -kind of issue. It would've been nice if ooffice
had told me "Locale xxx not found (LANG=xxx)" or something.
