Okay, more precisely: not yet, but I am going to. The Alpha is a
retired server.

Do you plan on resurecting the alpha machine as another server or as a
workstation?

Workstation fits it better, I presume. The correct term would be
"playground" ;-)

I do much C/C++ stuff, so besides testing things out, I probably will
use it to assure the stuff I write is 64-bit safe.

I think that is do-able.

Hm. Always presumed I find the time, is there anything I can do to
contribute via this machine? Testing? Recompiling something? Whatever?

That I don't know. I don't even know how you would bootstrap to begin
the build... that's a little beyond my area of expertise. =)

Well, it already has Linux (RedHat 5.2 based *grin*) on it, so I am
confident to get it up-to-date some way.

I don't think the installer that comes with the mdk alpha distro works at the moment. Haven't tried for a long time it to be totally honest. But if you take RedHat 6.2 you should be able to upgrade it (manually) to alpha cooker.
