I am I am guessing that you have an AMD cpu, if so add 'mem=nopentium'
to your lilo append and your lock-ups should cease.

Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try and report back. I have a
K6-2 450. However, I rather think that this should be autodetected by
the kernel if it is actually a problem. Also, I notice that someone on
down is claiming to still have the problem with an Athlon. Nopentium on
an Athlon? That doesn't sound right at all. And as far as the person
who made the comment about 'end user whining', if the developers on this
list consider us loyal Mandrake users to be nothing more than 'whiners',
they are sticking their heads in the sand and missing out on a great
resource. Remember, the person who tells you that your fly is open is
your friend. Your enemies will just get a good laugh out of it leave
you to your demise. We complain because we want to see Mandrake make it
big time. We complain because we care that these problems that are
really 'in your face' actually get fixed. And you can't expect the end
user to 'know' that they have to tweak lilo. Those days are past.
