For more simple stuff, though, I've been using nautilus-cd-burner. It's *very* cool. You just use any gnome-vfs aware app (usually Nautilus) to move the files to be burned to burn:/// , then run nautilus-cd-burner, and it picks them up, auto-detects your CD drive, and gives you a "burn" button.
