Can not verify. I do not have the environment any longer as I gave up
on 8.x because it was too flaky and did a fresh install with 9.0 which
seems much more stable so far.

Doing a fresh install of 8.2 from Mandrake CDs and selecting the "development
station" option results in a non-working gcc. Instead of installing gcc-cpp-2.96
it installs gcc3.0-cpp-3.0.4. The result is that gcc (gcc-2.96) fails because
it can't find cpp0.

On a system upgraded from 8.1 gcc works, apparently because it updated all
previously installed packages. This might indicate that the problem is in
package selection rather than mislabeled or cross linked package.
