It can be "fixed" by ctrl-alt-f1 (or f2 etc) and going back to ctrl-alt-f7. However, this still does not fix corruption in the KasBar icons. More specifically the symptom is partial but significant transparency for window contents (title bars seem ok), with a mangled look. After applying the "fix", sometimes the cursor bar gets "left behind" in applications like mozilla text areas in forms. My hardware is a GeForce 4 4200, Leadtek MyVivo, APG 4X on an Asus A7N8X. All the rest gave varying amounts of corruption problems. I finally gave up and installed nvidia's own drivers. Sorry if this is vauge and is seemingly useless informatioin but I feel it's important to share this in order to illustrate what a user would experience if 9.1 is released with nothing done to avoid the geforce4 problems illustrated in rc1.
