I recently got a toshiba 2436-s255 laptop. When I put a mandrake CD in
it displays the page asking me "<F!> for more options and <ENTER> to install or
upgrade"
If I hit enter my screen will go black and freeze.
I've tried <F1> and many different kernel options ... with the 2.4 kernels
nothing works I still get a freeze.
Using a 2.2 kernel allows me to proceed, I can install a base system but then
the 2.4 kernels that come with the system will not start my system up.
I have gotten this system to work with 2.4 kernels, I just had to build it
myself... this is very difficult when you don't have a rescue CD or anything
that can boot the machine.
I had the same problem with Mandrake 9.0. I'll refer you to a post discussing
