Hi, yes, I'm using the hp instructions, as far as I know, down to the letter. In
fact David (the developer of the hpoj driver) helped me get things going
last fall. The real problem I'm reporting is simply that "printer" and
"usb-storage" are not loaded by the hot-plug daemon when the usb
connection is made.
An example of the problem:
The system boots, and due to the fact that I've made David Paschel's
recommended modifications to the /etc/ptal/mlc* file, hpoj loads without
issue. However, the printer *will*not* work without me then su'ing to root
and doing a "modprobe printer" (and if I want to use the mass storage
driver to access the media card, "modprobe usb-storage").
In other words, I'm fairly certain, unless I'm missing something, that the
problem is that hotplug is not installing the modules required by the printer
when the printer is turned on or plugged in. So, assuming this theory is
right, I'm guessing that if you add the necessary config info to hotplug,
then as long as I configure hpoj properly, I shouldn't need to modprobe the
modules too.
My understanding is that you should never have to manually modprobe
modules for a supported usb device, right?
