This machine is an Athlon 1.0 GHz with 1.5 GB RAM, also running Windows 2000 which can connect with no problem so it's not a hardware issue. My network configuration is a cable modem which serves DHCP, connected to the uplink port of a Netgear DS108 hub, with 4 machines connected through the hub. All machines work perfectly under Windows 2000. I'm really hopeful that I can get Linux working on at least one of my machines, as I'd really like to be able to use it. This is Mandrake 9.1 beta 2.
