------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-03 03:20 -------
As noted, if someone has a ps2 or at keyboard port available, as well as
a ps/2 or at keyboard, that will work. However if the user has been
workign from day one with only a usb keyboard, and mouse, and doesn't
have one available, it's at the least an added $5.00 for a ps/2
keyboard. Even this will not work if the computer is a closed case,
without a ps/2 keyboard port available.

Worse, this is the case even if the motherboard bios suports providing
usb keyboard support itself.

There are only three or four places in the install where the keyboard is
particularly helpful, and they can be skipped to be delt with after the
install is completed. The places that I am aware of from my installs
that are extreamly handy are setting the root password and providing a
user account information. Likewise if networking is set up, this is a
great place to set the workstation name, including for zeroconf.

I don't expect higher order functions like the multi-media keys, or the
power/sleep/wake buttons, but a basic support would be handy, letters,
numbers, enter, punctuation.

I suspect that the reason that the bios settings to support USB
keyboards fails is that Mandrake Install does know about USB Mice, looks
for them and as a result overrides the settings in the bios.

When installing via boot CDs, USB is able to identify and work with USB mice,
but not USB keyboards. This will make instalation onto platforms without PS/2 or
AT keyboards difficult at best.
