xmove is indeed a step in the right direction. It doesn't seem to do much of the adaptation stuff (for example, it explicitly disclaims the ability to run colourmapped visuals on non-colourmapped displays and vice-versa), but it does do the switching. I guess the next step would be to add xkill-type stuff to it so the user has the option of anaesthetising the running processes on disconnect, and seeing if we can arrange a null target for when they don't. Sooner or later we may also have to face peculiarities of the Xv extensions and the like. Cheers; Leon
