Hi,
I just checked and it seems the KDE artwork package is still not being
included in Mandrake 9.1. As I noted when RC1 came out, there are a lot
of
packages that are probably used by far fewer users than basic KDE stuff
like
screensavers, so why is it being excluded?

If nothing else, why not just include kdeartwork's screensavers? Leave
out
the wallpaper and stuff and just include screensavers at least? I mean,
shouldn't there be *something* other than the Mandrake screensaver and
flying
tux?

I can just imagine the MSCE guy whose installing Linux to deploy on a few
boxes for the first time. He's tweaking the desktop and thinking "this isn't
too bad," and then he gets to the point of setting the screensaver. The
pointy haired bosses said they wanted the company logo used on the
screensaver.

"Nope, no can do, sir... Linux doesn't even include a slide show
screensaver!"

"Okay, just something that doesn't have a penguin or a-b-c blocks."

"Sorry sir, there just isn't anything else there. We should have just stuck
with Windows -- I mean, it lets the user choose stuff."

Maybe that's a bit far fetched, but as a desktop distribution, people *do*
expect a little choice in this area. If you did a survey, I bet the majority
of KDE users use something other than the two included screensavers,
and now
they have to figure out where to get them.

KDE 3.1 comes with a lot of really great screen savers and I'm truly
mystified as to why at least some of them aren't included. Unless Mandrake
now prefers GNOME over KDE, if GNOME is getting xscreensavers,
shouldn't KDE
get kscreensavers?

I don't mean to be a pain about this, I just wonder why this decision was
made for a second release in a row. I'd love to know the rationale behind
it...

I guess this isn't the typical kind of bug, but I wanted to make sure that a
comment about this went into the system. As I just posted on the Mandrake
Cooker list, I think kdeartwork is a very important package for many (most)
desktop users, and probably is needed a lot more than, say, koffice-devel
or xearth. How about finding a way to include it? It's ashame that in 9.0,
and it looks like now 9.1, GNOME users get screensavers and such, but
KDE users don't. :-(

  Thanks,
           Tim
