Checking the directory I found more .font.cache files... I looks and found that it seems that konqueror is creating or causing these files to be created, which is causing the flicker becuase it has to update the folder display when a file is added. In just about 10 seconds I had 96 files again. I just tested an idea by doing ls -a .font* | wc -l while enabling and disabling image previewing. The files stopped being created when you turn off image preview, but when you enable it, the files are rapidly created, somewhere about 5 - 10 a second.... I hope this helps... The program top indicates that konqueror, fam and kdeinit are sharing the CPU load (and X of course). The problem disappears immediately when a directory other than the home directory is displayed. I have tried setting the value of the default directory to both /home/damon and ~, but this makes no difference. Confusingly, the home directory itself contains entries for ALL users that are on the server this computer authenticates against at login time using ypbind, even though none of them (apart from myself) have ever logged in here. I'm not sure if that has something to do with it.
