I also did a clean install reformatting / and /home. I could not connect to the
internet after reboot. I tried to go to MCC and no luck. I knew the problem was
with shorewall (I hate that damned firewall, I had problems with it in 9.0)
because ifconfig reported eth0 having what looked like a valid IP address I
pulled via dhcp. It seems to me that the firewall used prior to shorewall
(can't remember the name) was much better. At least the folks at Mandrake knew
how to configure it better anyway. In MDK 9.0 I had to go in and specifically
open ports to share files over my LAN...In my point of view, why firewall the
LAN adapter? I can see firewalling the internet adapter (eth0 in my case) but
why the LAN adapter? I also think that shorewall is to blame for my never being
able to print to the printer (HP PSC 500, which worked find connected straight
to my computer) connected to my fiance's windows box. Sorry to have gone on a
rant, Mandrake 9.1 looks awesome. Hope they figure out all of these bugs.
Otherwise, I'll stick with 9.0. And I guess since the pachages are frozen,
there is no hope they will drop shorewall. I am running a Compaq 5006US, 766
mhz celron (coppermine), 320 MB SDRAM, netgear adapter (natsemi) for the LAN
and DLink (rhine) for internet adapter.

description:
On first boot of rc2 (clean install with partitions reformatted) I was unable
to connect to the internet. Went to MCC and did the wizard and still could not
connect. On hint from Francisco A. I uninstalled Shorewall and was immediately
able to connect. From the logs it appears that shorewall is automatically
rejecting packets from the host computer and from the firewall/router.
Configuration in MCC does not change anything. So the only obvious solution is
uninstall shorewall. This would not be obvious to a complete newbie. They
would give up in frustration
