BTW, the best place for such option would be (Desktop Configuration || Control
Center's LookNFeel)/Behavior, the "Devices" section on this tab.

The "Display devices on desktop" option is currently turned off to make way for
the dreaded "Removable Media" icon (why?).

I think the proper way to implement it would be to make "Removable Media" icon
one of device icons (their list currently includes mounted and unmounted
floppies, CD-ROMs, CD-Writers, HDD Partitions, NFS Resources, Samba Shares, Zip
Disks).

i am pretty positive that not every user is happy with removable media icon as
well as with dynamic icons reloaded each time kde is started. i always have to
use tutorial at https://icculus.org/~dolson/mdkxp/?c=tutorials to remove it.
have you ever considered implementing function such as turn removable
media/dynicons on/off (in KDE control center maybe)

that would be really great.
