There's no guide, but they cut through so evenly and quickly that,
once you've measured your next slice (with the knife turned off,
using a finger or whatever, it's easy to make a quick clean slice
down through the bread or meat or whatever. I have much better luck
with the electric knife while slicing bread than I have with anything else.
I used to have a knife that we bought at a craft fair. The craftsman
called it a "bow knife." It had a long handle and about a half inch
remoaved from the handle was the serrated blade. It worked quite
well for slicing bread, but then the serrated blade got dull and
there was no way to sharpen it. The electric knife never needs sharpening.

Do they have a guide on them to enable you to make even slices? That would
make one worth buying, for me.

Dear Paul,
If I had responded to your e-mail even 6 weeks ago, I would have told
you how easy it is to use an electric knife, how safe it is, even for
a person who is blind, and how much I loved my electric knife. I
especially loved my electric knife for cutting homemade bread.
Then, one night, about 6 weeks ago, I was slicing a pork
tenderloin. The amazing thing is that I was thinking to myself, I
have to be careful to keep the cord away from the blade. Then, I got
a phone call, and when I came back to the counter after hanging up
the phone, I just picked up the knife and began slicing -- right, as
it turned out, through the cord! There was this huge bang, and the
lights went out because when the current shorted out, the circuit
breaker tripped!
After I had pulled myself together and flipped the circuit breaker
back and unplugged the now defunct knife, I realized that I was not
dead and all I was missing was the knife!
Still, it was scary, and I have not replaced the electric knife.
But, I do miss it whenever I make a loaf of bread, because I loved
having so much control when cutting evenly spaced slices!
