NO BAKE CHERRY CHEESE SQUARES

1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs

1/2 cup sugar, divided

1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

3 ounces cream cheese, softened

2 teaspoons grated lemon peel

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups frozen whipped topping, thawed

1 jar (17 ounces) Cherry Republic Simply Cherries or 20-ounce can cherry pie filling

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, 1/4 cup of the sugar and melted butter; mix well. Press the crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9-by-9-by-2-inch baking pan. Place in the refrigerator to chill crust while preparing the remaining ingredients.

In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, remaining 1/4 cup sugar, lemon peel and vanilla extract. Beat until light and fluffy. Fold in the whipped topping
and pour into the chilled crust.

Combine the Simply Cherries and almond extract. Pour over the filling. allow to chill until ready to serve.

Makes nine 3-inch-square servings.
