Oatmeal Bread 3 loaves Original Poster's Note: This is wonderful tasting bread with a nice texture. Great toast. I got this recipe from the Hawley, MN Lutheran Ladies Aid Cookbook and it was submitted by Mrs. Clarence G. Gunderson. I used 2 packages of yeast instead of cakes.
2 cups oatmeal 1 quart boiling water 2 tablespoons lard 2 teaspoons salt 2 cakes yeast 1/2 cup warm water 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup molasses or honey 10 cups flour Pour boiling water over oatmeal, cool and add lard, salt, yeast dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water, brown sugar, and molasses or honey. Stir in the 10 cups or more flour to make a soft dough. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and let rise again. Put into loaf pans and let rise until double and bake at 350° for 50 minutes. _______________________________________________ Cookinginthedark mailing list [email protected] http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark
