Hello Gary,
I too am a recent recipient of the talking thermometer.
I believe the cover item was included from Dale as a special gift because we customers waited a while because the first delivery went missing. The cover is good to protect the thermometer while not in use and I believe one can hang it over the edge of a pot to read when the soup or whatever comes up to simmer or boil. I wonder if anyone can tell us what temperatures to wait for when when testing burgers, re-heating frozen items in the micro, etc. I made an apricot nut loaf this morning and as an experiment tested the temp when the toothpick came out clean and it was 193F. I'm going to try to keep a record of temps but if anyone can supply a list, it would be greatly apreciated.

Today the new thermometer from BlindMiceMart landed in my mail box. There is
one piece included that resembles a ballpoint pen. My ingenuity has failed
me because I cannot figure out what this piece is to be used for. There
doesn't seem to be anything on the instructions that gives me any clues to
what the purpose this piece serves.

In advance, usefulness suggestions for this piece would be appreciated.
