Partially sliced bagles can be dangerous when people use knives and haven't had their coffee in the morning yet. A way around this would be to use a fork to pierce the outside of the bagle along the line of the slice where it hasn't been cut through yet a few times then twist the two halves apart. Dave Oliver who works with me in the same office learned that from Charlotte Oliver before she died and told me about it last week. That even works on completely unsliced bagles but tends to be a bit crumby when they come apart.
