When I had a unit where the plates did not come off I would do the
following:
Wet a large dishcloth with water-so that there was no place dry on it.
I would fold the towel if necessary to fit it on the grill plates.
Turn the unit to warm-being sure the grease plate was under the frunt of the
unit. Being careful of the steam I would then remove the towel and use the
scraping tool that is provided to get anything off. If it was really a
messs! I would put a slight bit of soap on a sponge and wipe it clean.

Ah ok, nope mine doesn't come apart. But that's ok, I don't mind scrubbing
with soap and water, smile.

dawn dish washing soap and a lot of elbow grease. but if you can make it a
habit to clean it while its still semi warm with good soapy water, the
grease will break up and come off farely easy, provided the teflon coding is
still good.
