I suppose, it would be bad if someone used a knife to cut the pancake.

I understand (my entire family cooks, except me) so I know all about
preferences and protectiveness when it comes to cooking implements...
My sister doesn't even like me to touch her fancy wooden
spoon/spatchela set. :) I just wondered if there was some physical
reason that it would be a bad idea, like how you are not supposed to
use cooking spray on non-stick pans (if I remember right).

What makes a cake so special? That is, why is cooking a batch of
pancakes in a pan going to kill it when cooking a cake in the same pan
will not? It is all batter, right?
