This recipe was my Mom's. I think she got it from an old cook book and adapted 
it a little. One thing we all loved was when she made stew in a roaster. She 
would roll out the biscuit dough and with the round roaster lid cut out the 
dough to cover the stew. She would make a small cut out in the middle for 
steam. After the stew was cooked she would place the dough over the stew and 
replace it in the oven with the lid off. When we ate the stew we would cut out 
the biscuit on top, place it in our bowl and then scoop some of the stew over 
it mmmm good. I am not brave enough to try this and myself. Sorry for the long 
story here is the recipe.
BISCUITS 

2 cups flour 
4 1/2 teaspoon  baking powder 
1/2 teaspoon salt 
1 teaspoon sugar 
3 rounded tablespoons shortening,lard or butter 
3/4 cup milk or water 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees 
Mix dry ingredients 
Cut in shortening to crumb texture 
Pour in milk or water and knead slightly adding a little flour if sticky 
cut in biscuits or spread on cookie sheet and prick with fork 
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes
