From what I've just read, Root Beer is very similar to Sasparilla.
That is what Mum told me not too long ago. I'm also Australian, but I
lived in Wyoming in the US for a year with my family back in 1998/1999
before we all came back to Australia. While I was over there, I
remember having a few Root Beers, but to be honest, it was that long
ago, I can't even remember the taste, therefore I was told that Root
Beer and Sasparilla are both pretty much the same, but then again, I
also read that Sasparilla is more just artificial flavours now, so I
don't know what to think.
