If I make a recipe, the first time I make it I follow the recipe to the
letter because I want to first find out if the recipe is even accurate
and will provide an acceptable finished product. Subsequent times I
make the recipe I may experiment with ingredient adjustments. There's
another good reason for doing recipes this way, if an adjusted recipe
comes out badly I now have two points of reference from which to work if
the adjusted recipe was done the second time around and also have a
valid basis for comparison and that comparison controls future
adjustments. Your mileage will vary.
