Here is a Flint Michigan style Coney Island sauce for your dogs.

CONEY ISLAND HOT DOG SAUCE RECIPE

1 ½ lb lean ground beef

2 medium onions

4 stalks celery

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon white vinegar

1 tablespoon chili powder

½ teaspoon red pepper

1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon cumin

½ teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon allspice

2 dashes Worcestershire sauce

2 dashes soy sauce

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 12 oz. can tomato sauce

Mince onions, celery, and garlic with food processor, set aside. Cook ground
beef

with a little butter until 3/4 cooked, add minced mixture, and cook another
5 minutes.

Add all the spices and continue cooking, mixing well.Cook on low heat for a
about

1 hour. Add the tomato sauce and stir it in, mixing well.Once the sauce is
done,

mince it with a hand held stick type food processor. For the best authentic
results,

use Kayem “skinny” beef hot dogs, and the full buns, steamed.

 

Another recipe for Coney Island sauce.

CONEY ISLAND SAUCE

2 tbsp. butter

1/2 c. chopped onion

1 lb. ground beef (lean)

1 tsp. salt

2 tsp. paprika

2 tsp. chili powder

1 c. catsup

Optional.Cook onions in butter until soft. Stir in meat and chili powder.
Cook over

medium heat until meat is lightly browned. Add catsup. Cook 20-30 minutes.
Add a

little water if it gets too thick. Can be frozen.Spoon over hot dogs and top
with

chopped onions if desired.
