Hi, Nancy, and List,

To core a tomato, using the point of a paring knife, cut at a 45 degree angle
around the stem, going toward the center of the tomato. You will end up with a
piece, tapering to a point with the stem end being the widest. If you are
slicing a tomato, there is no need to remove the seeds.

For some recipes, though, it is better to remove them for a thicker more
concentrated sauce. For example, if you are making fresh salsa, it would be
better to remove the seeds before chopping the tomatoes.

Hope this helps.
Blessings,
Alice
