My Hamilton Beach waffle iron doesn't beep, but when it's ready for batter it clicks. I then did some experimentation to find the right time for my particular waffle preference. Some folks like their waffles much harder, like those frozen abominations some folks can tolerate, while others prefer a softer waffle, with a rigidity slightly higher than that of a pancake. I recommend that you get a sighted person over at some point, mix up a bunch of batter, and start experimenting with a timer. And save for the use of a sighted person this is close enough to what sighted folks do in cooking waffles when they haven't done it before. Since the waffle is sandwiched on both sides by the iron they can't see how it's progressing either.
