Don't like sweet cornbread either, but this can be made sweet:

Ingredients:
1 c. yellow cornmeal
2 C. self-rising flour (gold metal makes a good one.)
1/4 to 1/2 C. sugar, optional
2 eggs
2 C. milk
1 stick butter or 1/2 C. preferred oil/fat

Preheat oven to 350 dgs F. Place butter or other fat in iron skillet to melt
if necessary. Liquid oil will not need this but you can heat it a minute or
2\two if you like. Place dry ingredients in mixing bowl and blen well with a
fork. Add eggs and milk and mix vigorously till blended. Remove skillet from
oven and with a brush, distribute butter/oil on sides of skillet. Now pour
excess hot butter./oil into mixing bowl and stir till blended in. Pour
batter into skillet and bake 20-25 minutes or until knife/toothick comes out
clean.

Nothing better than a big bowl of Cuban black bean soup and fresh baked
cornbread right off the grill.
Now I don't like sweet cornbread, so I never buy the ready mixed stuff.
Instead
1 cup of corn meal
1 cup of all purpose flour
1 tbls baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbls sugar (optional)
3 tbls powdered butter milk
1 egg
1/4 cup of canola oil ( I use less)
1 cup of water, you can use milk if you must.
Blend in the dry ingredient, add the egg and oil, (I mix the two together
before adding to the Flour).
Now add 1 cup of cold water and use a Wisk to blend everything well.
Pour into a greased 8 inch cast iron skillet.
Bake @ 375 for 25 minutes or until done.
P. S.
If one has a sweet tooth in the family, pour a little honey over bread right
after taking it out of the grill or oven.
