Hi Steve.
Just to add something different to the mix, coffee cake in New zealand is a cake flavoured with instant coffee powder. It's usually either iced with coffee icing on top, or splint through the middle and filled with sweetened with coffee flavoured whipped cream. sometimes the iced version is also covered with walnuts after being iced.
