I am not Charles, but, thanks for telling him that, cause, I just learned something too! I never new that about mace either. I never have used anything, but the dry grounded nutmeg in some recipes, but never mace. Now that I know what it is and taste like, I will feel better if it comes up to use in a recipe. Smile. Katie

For Charles: Mace in the context of the question asked about the taste, is referring to the spice, mace, which is the outside of the nutmeg. It has a flavor very similar to nutmeg, but more flowery and delicate. It is used in pickles and some cakes and cookies.
