I've been meaning to write here about the same exact thing. I wanted to buy one as a gift for a friend who's been hinting about it for weeks and weeks. I've seen prices from $119 up to $249, so despite sales, figured the range of price was too big, and it was like the instant Pot, where there are several different models in sizes and functions. In doing research, I see everything from 2 quarts up to 6.5 quarts, with as few as four devices up to eight devices. In reading description's, I didn't find any that mentioned touch screens, so that is good, but could not tell how complicated it may be to use them.
I didn't think she wanted a million buttons, but if it meant dealing with less menus to memorize, slapping a few dots or even dymo tape on buttons may ultimately be a lot less work if the control panel is smooth. Unlike me who knows nothing about and has no interest in spending any more time in the kitchen than necessary, my friend loves to cook, but I'm not sure which device function she specifically wants. Since I was leaning on the slightly larger capacity to handle the number of people she loves to host, and in the case of the air fryer function she could have space to maybe warm two foods at once, I'm leaning towards one with a 6.5 quart capacity with all eight functions. Just note that though it says it has a 6.5 quart capacity, the frying basket goes within that, so only has 4.5 quarts. While doing research, I noticed on the Ninja website there was a link which mentions accessibility, but when I clicked it, it was unclear if it was only about the website, or in general, so I called the number anyway. The crabby woman was a huge turn-off, unwilling to even tell me if the location I called was in fact Ninja, or possibly a contractor for creating the page. She would not let me say anything, and insisted on taking my false name, phone, and email, between being cut off and put on hold multiple times before she would even say it was in fact Ninja who I called. When finally she got to the point of asking me which model I had with the problem, I explained that I didn't have a model yet, but wanted to do research to compare. She was trying to refer me back to the website, so I was forced to disclose the whole blindness thing, and I needed to compare more about usability, and not just physical function. I got slapped back on hold, then when she finally came back she said no, none are accessible, and rushed to hang up the phone, but frankly, she was such a jerk I'm sure she is one of those who would think we couldn't tie our own shoes. Totally turned off, I've sent a link to two of my sighted friends with the model I am considering. They are not sure, but some of the buttons may be tactile, and the others are big enough to fit a sticker. There is also a link to watch it in use on QVC, so during lunch I'm going to have him watch the eight minute infomercial to see if you have to push a lot of them, if it hopefully beeps, and superhopfully, if the temperature starts over every time you turn it on, or if you have to memorize what you left it on last. I figure, at very least it may start at the same place if she unplugs it. Amazon sells the same model for a bit more money, so if anyone is interested, here is the link on QVC for the better price of $160, with free shipping: https://www.qvc.com/Ninja-Foodi-65-qt-8-in-1-Pressure-Cooker-w-TenderCrisp-T echnology.product.K49354.html?sc=SRCH -----Original Message----- From: Cookinginthedark [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Gary Metzler via Cookinginthedark Sent: Wednesday, November 6, 2019 7:07 AM To: [email protected] Cc: Gary Metzler <[email protected]> Subject: [CnD] ninja air fryer question Hi All, A friend of mine told me about a 2 quart ninja air fryer. My question is, is it usable by a totally blind person and if so how easy is it to use? Thanks for any help. _______________________________________________ Cookinginthedark mailing list [email protected] http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark _______________________________________________ Cookinginthedark mailing list [email protected] http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark
