I don't know about other flavors of cake, but my mother always told me never to buy anything but Betty Crocker for my angelfood cake. Well, as a young woman might, I thought Mom could be mistaken about this, and I purchased another brand. It was horrible! I've never strayed from Betty's corner, at least for angelfood cake since then.
