Driver bug, IMHO.

Noted. I had not noticed before, of course.
3. Ball-and-stick representations are written to the state file, but seem to be mixed up in the display manager with other objects (e.g. displaying/undisplaying the first one switches the second map on/off etc.) after the state file is read back in.
This can happen if a coordinates file is missing on re-reading the state file. This is not easy to fix (due to scheme and python state files need to be handled).
Tiny nuisances... and rather disastrous if one wishes to impress a VIP guest in the movie room.
