Dear Mark, in addition to what Petra suggests, you may choose any theme and/or font for GTK2 just by editing ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and throwing in the following lines:
gtk-theme-name = "Raleigh" gtk-font-name="Lucida Grande Bold 10" Just change the values to any particular theme or font you fancy.
