It does not seem to be coot's fault, but coot is what triggers it. On the other hand, other programs do not seem to trigger the quirk on Linux.
Does coot use the same code for Linux/Mac/Windows?What I see on my hardware is that the CPU usage goes from 80% to 95% during the Spin view as soon as I click an atom, and the fans start to run (much) faster, and the battery drains much faster.
Probably one could find out with "perf" where coot is spinning ... best, Kay
