OK, these days, looking at the Map Properties will show you a density value histogram. Have a look and check that all is well. If so, all you have to do now is find the molecule in the cell. Perhaps it's at the middle? Without first reading in a coordinates model, read in the mrc map, set the radius to 99A and set the contour level to "something sensible" (as judged by the histogram) - maybe 4 or 5 rmsd is a reasonable first guess, as a rule of thumb. If the density histogram doesn't look sane, then there was a problem with the map, or a problem reading the map. I have seen coot fail to properly read maps written out by chimera. Coot has no problem with Relion output.
