I am using the latest version I can find of wincoot
I think the version that I would recommend is 0.8.9.3-pre from Bernhard's github. 0.8.9.3 will be out soon (I am a bit inundated ATM.)
and I am trying to follow the tutorial/webinar.
I am not sure what you mean by that. FWIW, Now that I can record my desktop at home and get a reasonable image quality with a reasonable file size, I will be making a few video tutorials. Customizations, Curlew, Jiggle Fit, Ligand Fit/Validation/Analysis, Restraints and Chain-Refine.
It has come to my attention that I cannot use the curlew() command as nothing actually happens, so I can't install the extensions.
That's right.
In fact I cannot find some of the later commands in the python scripting entry either (e.g., rama/rota markup) which might be from these extensions?
I think that's right. I've been working on 0.9 for more than 3 years, so it's a bit tricky to remember to which version features were added. I could look it up, but at the moment, I think that it's a missing feature, not a bug.
Is this specific to wincoot?
specific to 0.8.x I think.
I saw some past messages about curlew not working, and there being some fixes, but perhaps this is just for linux?
Fixed everywhere (as far as I know) in 0.9. It was because we now use https.
I am certainly struggling to make any progress learning how to use this software, so any help is appreciated.
If you are referring to the SBGrid seminar video, then that was specifically written to showcase the features in 0.9.
