Hello Ming,

OK, So the coot build doesn't build everything it needs from scratch - it relies on the system for some libraries. One of those libraries is libpng. Tell us about the version of libpng that you have installed.

$ rpm -q libpng

Now do a rpm -ql on the result, something like:

$ rpm -ql libpng-1.5.13-8.el7.x86_64

Your message about elf class makes me suspect that you have linked the wrong library. I have not heard before of a directory /bin/lib.

So, lets' go back. Without making library links, what does:

$ coot --check-libs

say?

Paul.

Hi Bill and Paul

Thanks for the messages. However, I tried removing the reducent libpng files in the coot bin lib folder, and also tried several other different Scientific Linux versions of coot. However, it is still not working. I'm wondering if it's more of a cenos8 issue in general or some other local set-up.

Any suggestions are warmly welcomed. Thank you all again.

best,
Ming

    Hi Ming:

    I got some similar errors on my Ubuntu install.  Removing some of
    the non-coot libraries (like libpng) that are duplicated might
    help.  Also, make sure you have the appropriate processor
    architecture.
