Andy, Coot now uses the XDG base directory specification, so user files go in ~/.cache, ~/.local/state, and ~/.config. Backup files for all projects can be found in ~/.cache/Coot/coot-backup/

Does Coot 1.x still support production of gzipped backup coordinate files? My Mac version crashes about as often as 0.9.x did, but I don’t appear to have the cushion of period backup files being created. Of course, I could manually save every few minutes, but it’s liberating to know that the system will do it for me.
