I can't say if such a thing has been done, but I certainly haven't heard
of it. Sounds like a great idea, by the way. Would make setting up an
M-R application easier if you could populate the data set in an easy
fashion, and ftp is certainly a well supported transport mechanism.
Would also offer another economical way for ftp mirror sites to manage
their storage, I suspect.
