System/Application Engineer Location : Branchburg, NJ Duration : 8 Months Rate : DOE GENERAL SUMMARY The Systems Engineer's role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. Engineer will be responsible for supporting Microsoft servers, Active Directory 2003/2008, business and IT applications. Candidates must have expertise and in-depth understanding of layered system architectures (Web services, Microsoft technologies, system monitoring & reporting). Must be highly proficient with Active Directory and Microsoft best practices. He/She will be responsible for MS Cluster Server configuration and management tools such as SCCM, MOM and Power Shell. The Engineer will also perform server audits and develop recommendations with regard to server hardware and software as well as perform Windows security analysis. This position is also responsible for documentation of all these systems and to report on these operations including writing GMP documents (IQ/OQ/PQ). Responsible and accountable for Windows Infrastructure (Active Directory, SCCM, MOM and Enterprise Applications) operating at peak performance 7 days a week 2. Manage and ensure security on all our servers to prevent external hacks and exploits 3. Design and deploy new application and enhancements to existing appliations, software , and operating systems 4. Provide level 3 support to the systems administators for diagnostics, troubleshooting and resolution of network and customer circuit anomalies 5. Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making impelmentation decisions 6. Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts 7. Interact and negotiate with vendor, outsourcers, and contrators to secure system-related products and services 8. Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedure, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies 9. Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and thir associated software into enterprise systems 10. Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications 11. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes and service records 12. Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems 13. Cooridnate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems 14. Review existing technology implementations and suggest and implement improvements and upgrades 15. Plan, evaluate and implement failover systems for disaster recovery 16. Create and maintain documentation for server and security implementation and procedures 17. Work with executive team members, decision makers and stakeholders to define business requirements and system goals, and to identify and resolve business systems isssues 18. Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes 19. Ability to work ONCALL and under pressure while troubleshooting and resolving server related problems ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE 1. 5 + years experience with Windows Server operating systems 2000/2003/2008, Active Directory and Group Policies, Vmware etc. 2. Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products. 3. Experience in Clustering, and Blade server technologies 4. High level of experience with Active Directory, server installations, server support and designing solutions. 5. Good knowledge of Windows protocols (DNS, DHCP, WINS, SNMP, SMTP, LDAP, HTTP, HTTPS). 6. Create solutions including virtual server implementations, highly available server systems distributed across multiple data centers 7. In depth knowledge of MS Backoffice applications such as IIS, ISA, SCCM, MOM, WSUS, and Power Shell 8. The applicant must be able to manage multiple projects/tasks concurrently. He/She must have the ability to prioritize tasks and complete assignments within an estimated time frame. 9. Must be a self-starter and be able to use own judgment/initiative to undertake activities with minimal supervision. 10. Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills. Good documentation skills are required 11. Microsoft MCSE certification or better. Linux certification a plus. 12.
