Meltwater PhD Studentship in Sentiment  Analysis

A fully funded 3-year PhD studentship is available for UK/EU students within 
the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham, UK in the area 
of Sentiment Analysis. 

The studentship is funded by Meltwater, a global Media Intelligence Company. 
The studentship will cover tuition fees and provides a stipend towards living 
expenses (£14,600 p.a.) and some funding for resources (e.g., hardware, 
software), international conference participation, and travel.

The PhD candidate will be expected to develop a PhD project closely related to 
one or more of the following topics:

Aspect-based sentiment classification and summarisation,
Subjectivity detection and classification,
Speculation and negation scope detection,
Opinion-based entity ranking.
The successful applicant will be co-supervised by Dr. Mark Lee 
<http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/~mgl/> (University of Birmingham) and Dr. Giorgio 
Orsi <http://www.orsigiorgio.net/> (Meltwater) and will have access to the 
Meltwater offices and Shack 15 Data Science Hub facilities in London.

PhD candidate specification:

Required:

A first class degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computational 
Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence.
A strong programming and statistical / Mathematical background with experience 
with programming languages such as Python or Java.
Experience in Computational Linguistics / Natural Language Processing, 
including statistical Machine Learning and Deep Learning.
Good communication skills, ability to work in teams but, most importantly, 
enthusiasm.
Desirable:

Experience with data science tooling such as Python / Zeppelin notebooks.
Some experience with numerical processing in R, Matlab, or Mathematica.
Some experience in deploying large-scale/distributed systems (e.g., Maven, 
Docker, AWS, CircleCI, Terraform) is a plus.How to apply:
